Simon joined the SMF in January 2007. His PhD, from the London School of Economics, examined the adoption of pro-market arguments by the British left during the 1980s and 1990s. His first degree was in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Wadham College, Oxford, after which he spent several months volunteering with street children in Central America. He has previously worked as a parliamentary researcher, taught politics at LSE and carried out academic research in various capacities for Professor Lord Anthony Giddens, the School's former director and Downing Street advisor. He is now focusing on public service reform.
